Sounds cheesy, but it’s a fascinating, adventurous, non-stop read - and there’s a whole series of them! Ideal summer reading. The Master Butcher’s Singing Club by Louise Erdich A story to keep your interest, where the reader is the only one who knows all of the story’s secrets. Bel Canto by Ann Patchett An opera star and music aficionados become long term hostages, and they kind of come to like it there. The Rain of Gold by Victor Villasenor A very enjoyable, romanticized biography of three generations of Mexicans, starting with the Mexican civil war and ending in present time San Diego. Caution: You may fall in love with the Mexican culture! The House of Spirits by Isabelle Allende I love everything Allende writes. This story of a Chilean family with ghosts in the attic is one of her best. The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama Get a good glimpse of the American political process today.
